Official Hardware Setup & Security Hub
Welcome to the official Trezor onboarding gateway. Safeguard your digital assets, tokens, and NFT portfolio with cold storage architecture designed to shield your private keys against malware, phishing, and unauthorized network breaches.
STEP 01
Use the official USB cable to plug your Trezor Model One, Model T, or Trezor Safe 3 directly into your computer. Inspect the tamper-evident holographic seal before connecting.
STEP 02
Install the genuine cryptographic firmware directly verified by Trezor Suite. This guarantees that your cold-storage device operates with unaltered, peer-audited open-source code.
STEP 03
Write down your 12, 20, or 24-word recovery phrase on physical paper or stamped metal. Never take a screenshot, photo, or type it into any online browser or cloud storage.
When managing cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and thousands of ERC-20 tokens, standard software wallets and browser extensions remain vulnerable to remote exploits, keyloggers, and clipboard-hijacking malware. The official gateway at Trezor.io/start establishes an authentic physical bridge between your personal computer and your Trezor device. By performing critical key generations and sign-off validations completely isolated inside hardware memory, your private keys are never exposed to the internet.
Upon landing on the start portal, users are prompted to download Trezor Suite—an integrated desktop management client available across Windows, macOS, and Linux, with optional web interface support. During setup, Trezor Suite conducts an automated bootloader handshake to ensure the device contains legitimate hardware components and authentic signed firmware. If a device ever arrives pre-configured with a PIN or a pre-printed recovery seed card, never use it; an authentic Trezor is always uninitialized right out of the sealed box.
During generation, your Trezor employs the industry-standard BIP39 mnemonic specification to formulate your unique root seed. Advanced users can also leverage Shamir Backup (SLIP39) on supported models, splitting root entropy into multiple cryptographic shares (e.g., 2 of 3, 3 of 5). This prevents catastrophic loss from localized house fires, theft, or physical damage. Remember: no customer support representative, email, or website will ever ask for your recovery seed words. Keeping this phrase offline ensures true financial sovereignty.
In addition to physical seed custody, the Trezor initialization walkthrough enables PIN protection with an exponential delay mechanism that renders brute-force attacks mathematically unfeasible. For an extra layer of deniability and maximum security, users can activate optional Passphrase Encryption (sometimes termed the 25th word). Each passphrase spawns an entirely distinct, hidden wallet instance, providing total immunity even in the event of forced physical duress.
Verify that your browser address bar explicitly displays trezor.io before connecting your wallet or following any prompt. Stay protected against imposter domains and copycat web pages.
